Goodbye Chains is now back, and updates M-W-F! On Sundays, please feel free to check out our sister comic, Venus in Points, which is about Banquo and Colin if they were badly-drawn cartoon doggies who die and curse in somewhat adorable ways. You may find yourself wondering why the art style has changed partway through--the reason is actually a surprisingly cunning one! GC was always intended to see publication as a series of three graphic novels (or one really big one, but three would be better), but because of its subject matter it's not the most...commercial of works. Especially for a pair of nobodies like us. We decided to post GC online in the hopes of building up enough of a following that we might not get laughed out of a publisher's office the next time we try to submit it--but then, the question becomes, "Who would want to buy something that they can get online for free?" There are two solutions to the problem: appeal solely to your hardcore fans (the ones who would want to have a portable version of your comic), or give the audience something they can't get for free. We decided to focus on the latter. But how?
We decided that the best way to add value is to offer two different versions of the art. The online version--the one you're reading right now--has some inked pages, but since our schedules are so busy, doing two inked pages a week is very difficult. The published version, if there is one, will feature the same plot and dialogue (maybe tweaked a bit here and there so it flows better, but largely the same), but with the same finished artwork that the comic started out with. That way, you don't HAVE to pay to read the comic, but if you do pay you're getting something more interesting than a couple of pinups in the back. This of course depends on whether or not we get a published edition, which in turn depends on us building a small army of comic lovers, so if you really want to buy that book the best thing to do is to encourage your friends to read GC. We think it would be unfair to use this site to make money off of you, so barring a catastrophe (house explodes, teeth fall out, computer gets crushed by falling-out teeth explosion) GC will not have any banner ads on its pages except for the occasional banner exchange. We don't want your money--but we need your love. :D
Now that that's out of the way, here are some resources you may find useful. The LJ Community for GC updates, discussion, and whathaveyou. Yell at people who deserve it. Many of them probably do. Along the same lines, the forum, which is filled with love and sunshine. We also have a MySpace page, if you feel like you must. Don't forget the RSS and Atom feeds on the front page--if neither of those work for you, there's always Livejournal Syndication or Resplendent Beard to use instead. We update every Tuesday and Thursday, but if you want to know exactly when it happens, these are your best bets. Goodbye Wiki, wherein you may learn more about the characters, or tell other people what to think of them. The wiki is password-protected, and you can get the password by checking the user info for the Livejournal community. The Annotated Goodbye Chains. Each new page will get an entry in this thread, filled with SEKRIT INFO you just can't get anywhere else. Because it wouldn't fit in the comic. Alas. Copyrighted like a mofo to A. Hunt.
